START WORKING YOUR 2019 PLAN NOW!
5 tips to help you stick with your plan
Wherever you are on your fitness and wellness journey today is the day to start anew! No need to wait for the New Year to get going. The holidays should not derail you into thinking it’s ok to wind down and start up again after the New Year. Now is the time to finish strong and discover the new you!
PLAN AHEAD WHEN YOU TRAVEL
I always like to grab my jump rope and a pair of running shoes, that way I can at least try for a quick cardio sweat everyday. Do what works for you but plan ahead which gives you intention to at least do something.
IMPLEMENT A HIIT OR A TABATA ROUTINE WHICH WILL MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR TIME
High Intensity Interval Training burns a lot of calories while using several muscle groups in a short period of time. Easy to find less than 20 minute routines will be amazingly effective and can be done almost anywhere.
GROUND YOURSELF IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES THAT YOU ENJOY
Fall in love with the sports you like to do most, you are much more likely to stick with an activity if you love what you are doing. (Word of advice stay away from fitness fads, the only goal that matters is the one you live with everyday!
GET ENOUGH REST
No doubt that holiday time can be stressful and busy, but try not to skim on your sleep. Doing so will change your CORTISOL levels (otherwise known as the stress hormone). In order to control stress successfully you need to have balance levels of cortisol, which gives you energy and the ability to deal with stress. So be sure to get enough rest now and throughout the entire holiday season.
BE AWARE OF YOUR ALCOHOL AND SWEET DRINK CONSUMPTION
No need to be a party pooper but try and be smart about what and how much you drink. If you stay away from sugary drinks you won’t add unwanted calories, try clear liquors with no sweet additions and take your time sipping instead of gulping. You will also be guaranteed to feel a lot better come morning.
WORKOUT your strategy now and have a plan in place for eating and drinking during party season.
One of the best approaches I’ve heard is to think of your appetite as an expense account and decide ahead how much you want to spend on drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts. Enjoy your favorite foods in sensible portions.
Now is the time to create habits that will sustain you for a lifetime of wellness you desire!
